Rocky Community Learning Council
Literacy is a safety issue!
42% of Canadians from 16-65 years of age do not have the minimum literacy skills for coping with everyday life and work.
Among that 42%, 15% score the lowest literacy levels and have serious difficulty dealing with any printed material. This puts a number of families and employees at risk.
At Home, Work & Play:
1. Being able to read and understand dosages and information about prescriptions and over-the-counter medications
2. Being able to read signs for road hazards
3. Being able to read and understand machinery operating instructions, safety precautions, equipment and repair manuals, first aid instructions, company safety procedures, etc.
4. Being able to leave a warning note for next shift
The Rocky Community Learning Council provides tutoring to adults in our community on a one-to-one basis through the Adult Tutoring Program to improve their reading, writing, math and English skills. Additional learning is also available on-line and with group learning.
